Grand Theatre Producties Ea Sola Requiem (coproductie met Tanz Theater International / Expo 2000 Hannover, Théâtre de la Ville Parijs, Schaubühne am Lehninerplatz Berlijn, Rotterdamse Schouwburg)  'Requiem' van de Vietnamees-Franse choreografe en theatermaakster Ea Sola is een grote productie met 22 dansers, zangers en muzikanten, die allemaal uit Vietnam komen. Evenals in de eerdere voorstellingen 'Sécheresse et Pluie' en 'Il a été une fois', spelen in 'Requiem' de cultuur en geschiedenis van Vietnam een belangrijke rol. Persoonlijke en collectieve herinneringen vermengen zich, zoals ook de zang, dans en muziek tot een aangrijpende eenheid samensmelten.Martin Bijkerk schreef in het Parool: "'Requiem' van Ea Sola is een overweldigende ervaring die niemand mag missen."  In een poëtische toelichting op de voorstelling schrijft Ea Sola: "Nogmaals leer ik dat de jeugd niet anders was dan hij was, in een zondoordrenkte delta - die van negen draken - waar de hemel de kleur van liederen heeft. Ik heb niet de horizon gevonden die er had moeten zijn."Ea Sola heeft een Franse moeder en een Vietnamese vader. Ze groeide op in Vietnam en moest dit land verlaten begin jaren '70. In Parijs werkte ze onder andere met Grotowski en Min Tanaka. In 1990 ging ze terug naar Vietnam om onderzoek te doen naar traditionele muziek en dans, en later ook om er voorstellingen te maken. Something has died. The anonymous feels it. Since a long time. He puts death to death. For one has to live. He undoes silence, he starts to speak. On this path without luxury he stands up. He stops his stomach haemorrhage. His body is no longer that piece of timber, that acidity he knows the origin of. He smiles. He walks. He moves forward. He mourns. Then it will be over. He dances the mourning. He dances his story. He goes. 
In this region of rain, cold and warmth, where dampness is 90 percent, this land under construction and dust, in this Vietnamese daily life, I met beings and found back a people I still have to learn from. There I conceived works which relate to us : an artistic time from an ancient civilization in today's light. In this place where stars are so close, the anonymous sells his face to the earth and his back to the sky. In Requiem, each performer works on their memory - something has died - to that story linked to their life they say come back and go away. Singers and musicians all deal with movement. From this ten years' process in Vietnam - where the anonymous kept appealing to me - Requiem is my last work.Ea Sola Data
