El Al  El Al: Ergens temidden van een taallaboratorium, een terroristentrainingskamp en een Midden-Oosters vliegveld ontstaat een semiotisch netwerk van verwarring en verborgen agenda's.El Al is een nieuwe dansvoorstelling van de jonge Britse choreograaf Martin Butler. Zijn werk verkent en toont hedendaagse kwesties in dans en performance. Martin Butler maakt sinds het begin van de jaren '90 korte en avondvullende performances, choreografieën en installaties voor theaters, galeries, bijzondere locaties en tv. Butler's werk is onderkoeld, macaber en vaak doorspekt met zwarte humor; elegant, geestig, historisch of hedendaags, vlak of hoogst artifificieel. In zijn voorstellingen creëert hij ruimte voor de individuele performer. Hij heeft een passie voor spelletjes, verborgen structuren en valse climaxen, daarnaast een lichtelijk paranoïde obesssie voor samenzweringen. Butler gelooft dat dans gewaardeerd kan worden als zelfstandig fenomeen maar ook als een artistiek verschijnsel in een bredere culturele context. His work explores and exposes contemporary topics through dance and performance. Since the early '90s, Butler has made short and full evening performances, choreographies and installations for theatre, specific locations and tv. The work is elegant, witty, historical or contemporary, plain or highly artificial when necessary. His passion for games and inclination to hidden structures and false climaxes, blended with a slightly paranoid obsession with conspiracies has spawned his compositions. Butler's work generously allows space for the individual performing artist, placing the personal in a semantic, rule-based context. Butler's work is understated, macabre and often dispersed with black humor. The performances start at the edge of narrative. Iconography, objects and compositional choices offer subtle clues for the audience to construct a context for association and appreciation; movement and sound provoke potential narratives and situations.
