Barok is gebaren, geluid en licht door elkaar verwoven. De choreografie en muziek worden gemaakt door de herhaling van gebaren en geluiden, waarbij steeds nieuwe elementen worden toegevoegd. De danseres beweegt binnen de grenzen van de draai, curve en buiging, zoekend naar een nieuwe fysieke taal. De muzikant onderzoekt het stapelen van meerdere elektrische impulsen die samen een ritme vormen.
De Italiaanse Sonia Brunelli was vorig jaar een van de choreografen in het project The Migrant Body, een Europees dansproject waarvan het Grand Theatre een van de organisatoren was.Samen met muzikante Leila Gharib vormt ze sinds 2008 BAROKTHEGREAT. Deze samenwerking begon als een reeks van toevalligheden, ideeën en onafhankelijke artistieke uitingen. Ze streven naar een proces zonder grenzen en met een steeds veranderende bezetting. Naar een unieke esthetiek, die zal worden onthuld door de blik van het publiek. BAROKTHEGREAT onderzoekt de concepten; performance, dj-set, concert en alles wat je nog niet kent...

BAROK | Overwrite mechanismThe choreography and the music are being created through a repetition of gestures and sounds, adding new elements all the time. Looking for a new physical language the figure’s body moves within the possibility of the twist, the bend and the curve. The sound investigates the layering of many electric impulses creating a rhythm. This piece wants to bring the audience into an unexpected dimension using unusual images, sounds and light.
BAROKTHEGREAT is the name of an artistic group that takes shape in time and through collective and individual proposals. Created and lead by the dancer Sonia Brunelli and the musician Leila Gharib, BAROKTHEGREAT works to a distinctive aesthetic without limits of genre and format in the frame of performing arts and live music. In 2008 BAROKTHEGREAT creates the first work “BAROK Overwrite mechanism” that makes its debut on 19th December at Grand Theatre of Groningen (NL) and in April 2009 BAROKTHEGREAT takes part in F.I.S.Co. 2009 Festival internazionale sullo spettacolo contemporaneo, in the project “W - intuitions about the world waiting to become an established construction”.
